The Hollywood Reporter · 3 hours ago

Actor Lucy Liu has joined "Reset," a sci-fi dramedy from writer-directors Celine Tien and Jerry Hsu, as an executive producer, with the project now being developed from a short film into a feature. The short premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Audience Award for best international short film, and its expansion adds Liu's profile to a story about intergenerational trauma that resonated strongly with festival audiences.

The short, produced by SPL Max, is set in a near future where citizens are reset to the age of six once they turn 65, and follows a young woman caring for her newly reset mother while trying to track down her estranged father before the state intervenes. It stars Olivia Liang and Sam Song Li, with Julien Soros producing and Charles Xiuzhi Dong on cinematography, alongside additional executive producers including Branton Choi, Eva Li Hsieh, Sheila Marcelo, James Liang and Adam Marcelo. The feature adaptation is described as being "in active development," and The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively released the short's teaser trailer.
