Luxury cruise liner steward raped woman passenger on trip out of Southampton, court hears
A passenger accused a cabin steward aboard Cunard’s Queen Anne of raping her while the ship travelled between Scotland and Iceland in August 2025. The High Court has overturned a lower court ruling that blocked extradition, allowing Bermuda’s request to send the steward there to face trial to proceed towards a final decision.
Filipino crew member Arvie Oporto denies the allegation and remains on conditional bail. The ship is registered in Bermuda, whose authorities say they can prosecute certain alleged crimes by crew members at sea; the High Court found the alleged offence met British extradition law requirements. The Home Secretary will make the final extradition decision, and the judges made no findings on whether the alleged rape occurred.
In short
- A passenger alleges a steward raped her aboard the Queen Anne.
