M. Night Shyamalan praises “true artist” Charli XCX after watching ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ tour

NME · 1 hour ago

Director M. Night Shyamalan has praised Charli XCX as a "true artist" after attending the opening night of her 'Music, Fashion, Film' tour in Philadelphia on 11 September 2026. Sharing a photo with the singer and his daughter Saleka on X, he described being "taken away" by the concert and noted their shared passion for cinema, calling her "a true artist with integrity and a good human". The praise highlights Charli's growing reputation beyond music, reflecting her known love of film, including reviewing movies on Letterboxd and moving into acting.

The tribute comes as Charli faces some criticism over her forthcoming UK and Europe arena leg of the tour, which comprises just six dates across Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester, London, Amsterdam and Paris. She addressed fan frustration on Instagram, explaining that touring is "emotionally and physically hard" for her and that she must "honour her truth as an artist" rather than mount a longer run, a reason she said also applies to her shorter North American tour. Tickets for the European dates go on general sale at 9am BST on 18 September 2026, following her four-star-reviewed headline set at Reading & Leeds last month.
