Representatives for Madonna have denied a viral social media rumour claiming she was seen sitting in Donald Trump's suite during the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium. The rumour spread after footage showed a woman seated behind Melania Trump in the president's box during the Spain v Argentina final, with fans on X speculating it was Madonna, despite the singer being a long-standing and vocal critic of Trump.

Madonna performed her track 'Music' during the Chris Martin-curated halftime show on Sunday 19 July, alongside cameos from football legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, meaning she would most likely have been backstage at the time the disputed footage was filmed. A rep confirmed to Rolling Stone that she was not present in the suite. The halftime show also featured performances from The Muppets, BTS, Justin Bieber, Shakira, Burna Boy and Coldplay, and comes as Madonna's new album 'Confessions II' tops the Billboard 200, making her the fourth artist with ten Number One albums on both the Billboard 200 and Hot 100, alongside Taylor Swift, Drake and The Beatles.
