Magic: The Gathering has released an exclusive first look at a card from its forthcoming "The Hobbit" set, part of the game's "Universes Beyond" line that adapts outside intellectual property into tabletop play. The new card depicts the dwarf warrior Glóin, father of Gimli, battling a goblin in a scene drawn from J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, and marks the latest expansion of Magic's growing Middle-earth range following its 2023 "Lord of the Rings" set.

"The Hobbit" set launches on 14 August and will include a headline Smaug the Magnificent card, classic artist renditions and Dwarven language cards, alongside two variants of the "Glóin the Mighty" card revealed by Variety. It forms one of the Universes Beyond collaborations that publisher Wizards of the Coast has planned through 2027, alongside three mainline Magic sets—"Nauctis: The Sunken Realm" (February 2027), "Kamigawa: Titanbreach" (June 2027) and "Zhalfir" (October 2027)—with further Universes Beyond releases scheduled for April, August and November 2027, though their subjects remain unannounced.
