Magic: The Gathering Star Trek Officially Adds a New Way to Lose the Game

Polygon ·

The upcoming Star Trek set for Magic: The Gathering adds a card that can make its controller lose the game. Kobayashi Maru Scenario reflects the famous no-win training exercise from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, turning the story into a risky in-game choice.

The blue enchantment offers a different benefit at the start of each upkeep: draw two cards, return a low-cost opposing creature to its owner’s hand, or create two 1/1 Officer tokens. After three turns, the only option is to abandon ship and lose, unless the player removes the card or finds another way around its effect. The set also brings back spacecraft and station mechanics and introduces Borg Assimilate, Federation and Strange New Worlds abilities; it releases on 13 November.

  • A new Star Trek card can force its controller to lose.
  • Players get three turns of useful choices first.
  • The set releases on 13 November.
