Despite featuring visually stunning artwork by Scott Watabane and other artists, along with solid reprints like Swan Song (£11 value) and Underworld Breach, the drop has disappointed many fans, including the author, who felt it failed to deliver the most anticipated elements. The £25.99 non-foil drop is part of a larger Corn Maze Superdrop collection that includes other themed drops with excellent thematic consistency and artwork.

The primary criticism centres on the absence of legendary creature cards representing the main characters from the film—particularly Huntr/x and the Saja Boys—which would have allowed players to build Commander decks around beloved characters. The author had expected multiple character-focused legendary creatures, potentially with unique mechanics, similar to Wizards' approach with the Hatsune Miku preconstructed Commander Deck. Whilst the existing cards show strong thematic design (such as a demon bird on Swan Song), fans are left hoping this is merely "a timid first step" towards more character-driven Secret Lair drops, with speculation that future Universes Beyond sets in 2027 may deliver what this drop lacked.
