Mahershala Ali has criticised Marvel Studios for failing to make its planned Blade film, saying the studio had him under contract and could have completed the project if it had wanted to. The film’s collapse matters because Ali was announced as Blade in 2019, yet never appeared as the character despite years of development and training.
Marvel hired Bassam Tariq and later Yann Demange to direct before production stalled. Ali and Tariq instead reunited for Amazon MGM’s forthcoming action film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which Ali says gave him a sense of creative redemption; Marvel chief Kevin Feige has said the studio abandoned Blade because it did not believe the script was strong enough.
