A majority of British voters support introducing a tax on private jets to help address the Government’s projected Budget shortfall, according to polling by More in Common. The proposal is being considered amid pressure on Chancellor John Healey to fund public-service commitments and additional defence spending without placing further burdens on ordinary households.

The poll surveyed 3,039 adults in September, with 79 per cent supporting a private-jet tax and 56 per cent saying wealthy people do not pay their fair share. Possible measures include higher fuel duty and air passenger duty, potentially raising up to £2.7bn annually, while support extends across political groups, including 46 per cent of Conservative voters and 49 per cent of Reform voters.
