Malaysia to give US$2,400 in aid to families of 54 citizens missing in Nepal-Tibet floods
Malaysia will give a one-off RM10,000 (about US$2,460) to each family of 54 citizens still missing after floods struck the Nepal-Tibet border region in August. The assistance, approved by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, provides financial support while efforts to locate the missing Malaysians continue.
The National Disaster Management Agency will distribute payments according to its next-of-kin priority, starting with spouses, then parents and children. Malaysia initially reported 55 citizens uncontactable; one returned home safely on 1 October. The disaster followed a collapse of glacial ice and rock and has reportedly killed at least 1,451 people, with around 5,700 still missing across the region.
