Musician Mali Obomsawin has announced her new album Automatic, the follow-up to her 2022 solo debut Sweet Tooth, with the title track released alongside the news. Best known as a member of indie rock band Deerlady but also active across jazz and experimental music, Obomsawin, who belongs to the Abenaki First Nation's Odanak community in Quebec, describes the record as an attempt to create music that institutions cannot own, blending archival recordings of her Abenaki ancestors with new original material.

The album was produced with Andrew Broder, also known as Fog, and features eight tracks including "Nawa," "Automatic" and "Triage." Its cover art pairs personal items such as Obomsawin's upright bass and traditional ash baskets with symbols of conflict, including grenades, a rifle and the Mohawk Warrior Society flag. Automatic is due for release on 16 October via Out Of Your Head Records.
