Prosecutors say man planned artist’s killing and stole from her accounts
George Gordon, 65, admits killing artist Delia McInerney, 62, but says he acted in self-defence. Prosecutors told Liverpool Crown Court that he planned her murder after learning she intended to move to Portugal, then hid her remains and tried to conceal her death. The case matters because the prosecution alleges he also impersonated her and took money from her accounts after she died.
The jury heard that McInerney was due to fly to Portugal on 13 April 2023 with her five guinea pigs, and prosecutors say she died on 11 or 12 April. They allege Gordon bought items including a sledgehammer, drugs and a surgical handbook, dismembered her body and placed it with the animals in a chest freezer. Police found the remains at his St Helens flat on 8 January 2026, after he allegedly sent messages posing as McInerney for 18 months and obtained money and credit in her name.
In short
- Gordon admits killing McInerney but claims self-defence.
