A 45-year-old man has been charged with burglary following a break-in at a Rotherham Hospice charity donation centre in South Yorkshire, after a window was smashed and a donation tin was stolen. The incident caused significant damage to the charity's premises on Rawmarsh Road, with staff describing the cost of repairs as vastly disproportionate to the small amount of cash taken, meaning funds normally set aside for patient and family care may need to be diverted to cover the repair bill.

Michael Brailsford, of Queen Street in Rotherham, was due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates' Court, South Yorkshire Police confirmed. Leanne Fox, the hospice's head of trading, said the break-in had left volunteers visibly upset upon seeing the damage. The centre had earlier described itself as "flabbergasted" by the incident, which took place earlier in July.
