BBC Sport · 2 hours ago

Manchester City have signed Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille on a two-year contract. The 34-year-old returns to the club after a 2016-17 spell without a first-team appearance, providing experienced cover for first-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma following James Trafford’s move to Leeds.

City reportedly paid £1.7m for Rulli, while Trafford left in a deal worth up to £45m. Rulli has eight Argentina caps and was in squads that won the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America; he is also remembered for helping Villarreal beat Manchester United in the 2021 Europa League final penalty shootout.

  • Manchester City sign Rulli from Marseille for reported £1.7m.
  • He will understudy Gianluigi Donnarumma.
  • Rulli replaces departing goalkeeper James Trafford.
