Man fights for his life after tragic cliff jump into water at vacation hot spot
Jacob Fleig, a 22-year-old from New Jersey, was critically injured after jumping into the sea from a height of nearly 100 feet at Fiordo di Furore on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. The incident highlights the risks of cliff jumping at a popular tourist spot where underwater hazards may be difficult to see.
Fleig was taken to hospital and then transferred by helicopter to Salerno, where he underwent multiple procedures and surgeries and received intensive care. His family said they hoped to stabilise him so he could return to the United States for further treatment; a fundraiser had raised more than $47,000 towards a $50,000 goal. He had proposed to his girlfriend after arriving in Italy, and she accepted.
