A man has been convicted of the attempted murder of a teenager after shooting him in the head on a street in Sheffield, while a woman who helped him evade capture has also been found guilty. Tanzir Ali, 27, was convicted at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday, and Sharna Osborne, 24, was found guilty a day later of assisting an offender, a charge she had denied; the case had previously heard CCTV evidence that captured the shooting and undermined Ali's claim that the gun went off accidentally.

The attack happened on London Road in Sheffield at around 17:15 GMT on 24 November last year, leaving the 16-year-old victim with life-changing injuries. Ali fled to Aberdeen afterwards and was arrested there alongside Osborne, who had booked them a hotel room using false details. Ali had already admitted possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and both defendants have been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on 18 November. A senior investigating officer said the victim's family had endured an agonising wait at his bedside, not knowing if he would survive.

Ali was found guilty of trying to murder a teenager by shooting him in the head in a busy Sheffield street last November, an attack that left the victim, then 16, with life-changing injuries. His conviction followed CCTV footage that contradicted his account that the shooting was accidental. Osborne was separately convicted of helping him escape justice after he fled the scene.

The pair were arrested together in Aberdeen, having travelled there after the shooting; Osborne had booked their hotel room under false details. Ali had earlier admitted a separate firearms offence linked to the incident, and both are now in custody awaiting sentencing.

Cases like this typically raise questions about street violence involving weapons, the impact of gun crime on young victims, and how the justice system deals with those who assist offenders after a serious crime.
