Man says Texas Roadhouse served him $20 steak instead of pricier filet multiple times

Fox News ·

A regular Texas Roadhouse customer says he was served a cheaper sirloin instead of the filet mignon he ordered on three visits to the chain’s Forsyth, Illinois, restaurant. His TikTok warning has attracted more than 30,000 views and raised questions about whether diners can tell if they are receiving the steak they paid for.

Kenneth Card said his restaurant kitchen experience helped him recognise the difference and that he challenged staff on the first and third occasions. The restaurant confirmed one mix-up and said it was corrected by providing a filet, but the company said it could not verify that this happened three times. An 8-ounce sirloin costs about $20 at that location, compared with about $30 for a filet; Card says he does not plan to return.

In short

  • Customer alleges three steak mix-ups at one Illinois restaurant.
  • Texas Roadhouse confirmed one error and said it was corrected.
  • The steaks cost about $20 and $30 respectively.

Explained simply

Texas Roadhouse is a US restaurant chain known for steaks and other casual dining meals. Its menu offers different cuts of beef at different prices, including sirloin and filet mignon.

Sirloin and filet mignon come from different parts of the cow and can differ in tenderness, shape and price. A diner may not find the distinction easy to judge once a steak has been cooked and served.

When a restaurant serves the wrong cut, it raises questions about how orders are checked and whether customers receive what they paid for. Texas Roadhouse has acknowledged one mix-up at the Illinois restaurant, while saying it could not verify the customer’s account of three occasions.
