Christopher Sale, 47, from South Elmsall near Wakefield, has been jailed for helping smuggle cannabis resin worth up to £720,000 into the UK in a motorhome. The case highlights the role of a wider organised crime group that used ferry routes from mainland Europe to bring illegal drugs into Britain.

Sale and associate Russell King transported two holdalls of cannabis resin concealed in the motorhome’s compartments in 2024. At Sheffield Crown Court, Sale received four years and nine months for conspiracy to import a controlled drug, with concurrent sentences for fraudulent evasion and supplying a Class B drug; King was jailed for 22 years in 2025 after also being linked to the importation of 632kg of ketamine.
