Man with a Pram portrait to be raffled for charity

feeds.bbci.co.uk · 1 month ago

A portrait of Sheffield charity fundraiser John Burkhill, widely known as the “man with the pram”, will be raffled to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The initiative celebrates his long-running fundraising work after the cancer deaths of his wife and daughter, while helping him pursue a new target of raising £2m for the charity.

Burkhill, 87, has raised more than £1m through over 1,000 events, often wearing a bright green wig and pushing his customised pram. The painting was created by Sheffield artist Pete McKee, who chose to donate it rather than sell it commercially; Burkhill reached £1m in May 2023 and has since received a Points of Light award and a Sheffield Legends Star.
