Shueisha has launched Manga Million, a global digital library offering more than one million manga pages in 100 languages to mark its centenary. Available free outside Japan until the end of 2027, it could broaden access to major and previously untranslated manga for readers worldwide, though questions have emerged over whether AI-assisted translation was involved.

The project took five years to develop and began with 400 series, with more planned. It includes first English translations of titles such as TochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops and gives some international readers access to series including Kingdom; availability varies, with One Piece’s first 12 volumes in 102 languages and Haikyu!! and Oshi no Ko’s first five in 20. Shueisha says no AI translations were used and that work underwent detailed checks, despite online concern about one translation supplier’s AI-related marketing.
