Manics honour Richey Edwards as Suede look to the future at London co-headline show
Manic Street Preachers paid tribute to former lyricist and guitarist Richey Edwards during their co-headline show with Suede at London’s O2. The concert was part of the bands’ UK tour, bringing together groups who first toured jointly in 1994, and paired the Manics’ reflections on their history with Suede’s emphasis on new music.
The Manics opened with ‘Motorcycle Emptiness’ and played four songs from their debut album, as they build towards an announcement for its 35th anniversary. Nicky Wire remembered Edwards and introduced ‘Little Baby Nothing’ as one of his best lyrics; the band also performed ‘Die In The Summertime’ as a trio. Suede opened with songs from their new album, ‘Disintegrate’ and ‘Antidepressants’, and added tour debuts including the B-side ‘Killing Of A Flashboy’, ‘Everything Will Flow’ and new song ‘Tribe’.
