Manchester City target Fernández to restore leadership ranks
Enzo Maresca says Manchester City want to sign one or two additional leaders before the transfer window closes, following a summer in which several experienced figures have left. He has identified Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández as a potential target, underlining City’s effort to rebuild leadership as well as squad depth.
Bernardo Silva, Rodri, John Stones and Nathan Aké have departed, while Rúben Dias and Erling Haaland have been named captains. City are expected to pursue the 25-year-old Fernández despite Chelsea’s earlier bid deadline, are monitoring Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and expect Omar Marmoush to join Tottenham; Jack Grealish may also leave on loan, with Sunderland interested. Matheus Nunes is doubtful for Friday’s match at Crystal Palace.
