Mariana di Girólamo Takes a Ride on the “Wild” Side
Mariana di Girólamo says working on *Wild Horse Nine* helped her cross a personal milestone: while preparing for her first American production, she began dreaming in English. The Chilean actress plays a leftist student in Martin McDonagh’s film, which is set on a remote Chilean island shortly before the 1973 coup.
Di Girólamo, 35, trained in theatre after initially studying midwifery, then gained wider attention in Pablo Larraín’s *Ema*. McDonagh became interested in casting her after seeing that film. *Wild Horse Nine*, starring John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell, premiered at Venice and also screened at Telluride and Toronto; it is due in cinemas on 6 November.
