Mariska Hargitay Is Enlisting the ‘Colbert’ Team for Her Emmys Hosting Gig, Writers “Set Up Shop” at ‘SVU’ for Several Months of Prep

The Hollywood Reporter · 3 hours ago

Mariska Hargitay has been rolling out preparations to host the 78th Emmy Awards, working with a writing team led by former "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" head writer Ariel Dumas. The writers reportedly set up at the "Law & Order: SVU" offices for several months so Hargitay could work with them between filming, reflecting the scale of preparation behind her hosting debut. The announcement came as Hargitay and producers unveiled a blue carpet outside the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, marking NBC's 100th anniversary, ahead of Monday's ceremony.

Producers Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon confirmed the writing arrangement and revealed further details of the show, including Noah Kahan leading the in memoriam tribute and special tributes to the 30th anniversary of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the 50th of "Charlie's Angels". Hargitay, fresh from winning two Emmys at last weekend's Creative Arts ceremony for her documentary "My Mom Jayne", said she intends to bring her own unconventional style to the hosting role rather than following previous hosts' formats. The 78th Emmy Awards air live from Los Angeles on Monday on NBC and stream on Peacock.
