Mark Ruffalo Goes Scorched-Earth on Paramount-Warner Bros. Merger, Calling Out the Ellison Family’s Complicity in Palestinian ‘Genocide’
Actor Mark Ruffalo has publicly denounced Paramount Skydance's proposed $111 billion (£87 billion) takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, using his Instagram Story to accuse the Ellison family of complicity in what he called a "genocide" against Palestinians. The intervention comes as the merger faces legal challenges from a dozen state attorneys general and has raised concerns in the industry, given that Paramount Skydance owner David Ellison — son of Oracle chief executive and Trump donor Larry Ellison — would gain control of both the largest studio in Hollywood and CNN.
Ruffalo shared a clip of Oracle executive vice chair Safra Catz discussing the company's assistance to the Israeli military following the 7 October 2023 attacks, in which Hamas-led militants killed 1,195 people and abducted 251 others. He linked Oracle's reported involvement to Israel's ongoing military campaign in Gaza, which he said has killed 73,000 Palestinians, and warned that the merger risked concentrating dangerous technology and power in the hands of "oligarchs." He also cited estimates that the deal could cost 4,500 direct film industry jobs and a further 10,000 ancillary roles, and voiced support for the state attorneys general seeking to block it.
