During the Miami Marlins' 11-3 defeat to the Atlanta Braves on Thursday at Truist Park, two Marlins outfielders collided while chasing a fly ball hit by Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr., inadvertently knocking it over the outfield wall for a home run. The mishap occurred because left fielder Heriberto Hernández and centre fielder Esteury Ruiz failed to hear each other calling for the catch amid crowd noise, colliding on the warning track and popping the ball out of the park rather than making the play.

Acuña had hit a 79mph sweeper from Marlins starter Janson Junk to deep left-centre field, initially unsure whether it would clear the fence before the collision handed him the run. He went on to hit a second, unassisted home run in the eighth inning to extend Atlanta's lead to 9-2. The win was the Braves' season-high eighth straight, stretching their National League East lead to 8½ games with a 70-45 record, while the Marlins fell to 58-58.
