Marlo Miazga Launches M Media With CBC Order For “Deeply Personal” Doc ‘Ground Control’
Canadian producer Marlo Miazga is launching a new Toronto-based production company, M Media, with its debut project being a deeply personal documentary for CBC about the loss of her 14-year-old child, Mars, to suicide in 2020. The film, titled Ground Control, is being made alongside a memoir of the same name that Miazga is writing for Random House Canada with journalist Katrina Onstad, and marks a significant career and personal milestone for the former Sphere Media executive.
CBC has greenlit production, which starts in October, with delivery planned for spring 2027 to coincide with the book's launch on 26 January 2027. Funding comes from Telefilm Canada, the Canada Media Fund and the Roger Documentary Fund, with Chase Joynt directing and Julie Bristow and Ryan Dias serving as executive producers alongside Miazga. The documentary will have a Canadian theatrical release via Eyesteel Films, with worldwide rights currently being sold, as Miazga returns to the entrepreneurial path she began in 2011 after leaving Sphere Media last year.
