Former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman said writing the theme song for Netflix’s anime series “B: The Beginning” took nearly a year because he was closely involved with the production as its story and characters evolved. The experience illustrates how anime music commissions can range from a simple performance request to a detailed creative collaboration shaped by narrative development.

Friedman recorded “The Perfect World” after viewing the completed series before release and receiving regular updates on character changes, although he said his priority was capturing the programme’s overall feeling. By contrast, he said his contribution to the “Sailor Moon” theme involved simply recording guitar for songwriter Revo; Friedman moved from the US to Tokyo in 2003 to pursue Japanese music more fully.
