Marvel Officially Changes Gambit Forever
Marvel's Uncanny X-Men has permanently altered Gambit's appearance, marking a significant shift for one of the X-Men's most iconic characters. After Remy LeBeau stole the Left Eye of Agamotto from a dragon, a demonic entity called Wyvern took hold of him, and in the latest issue, exorcising Wyvern still leaves Gambit with grey skin, horns, wings, a tail and claws, with the character himself sensing the changes now come from within rather than an external force.
In Uncanny X-Men #34, the supernatural hunter Repent helps free Gambit from Wyvern's control, but his demonic form persists, and he chooses to leave with wife Rogue to investigate what he has become rather than seek an immediate cure. The pair are heading to Barcelona to find Nightcrawler, while Marvel's teaser for issue #35 warns of a further "terrifying transformation" and hints that any fix could again prove worse than the affliction, signalling that Gambit's ordeal in Gail Simone's ongoing run is far from over.
- Gambit's demonic transformation in Uncanny X-Men is now permanent, not temporary.
- Exorcising the entity Wyvern didn't restore his original appearance.
- Rogue and Gambit head to Barcelona seeking Nightcrawler's help.
