Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has candidly reflected on the long-stalled solo Blade film, ultimately conceding he feels "like a gigantic loser and failure" over the project's inability to get off the ground with star Mahershala Ali. Made on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, the admission stands as one of Feige's most unusually frank acknowledgements of a Marvel production failure, and it leaves little doubt that a standalone Blade film with Ali will now ever be made.

Feige unveiled Blade at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, with Ali making a surprise Hall H appearance to confirm his casting. The production subsequently cycled through multiple writers and directors, was teased in an Eternals post-credits scene, and was eventually pulled from Marvel's release schedule without any further update. Blade did resurface briefly via a Wesley Snipes cameo in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, but Ali's version never materialised; he has instead reunited with Blade's original director, Bassam Tariq, for an unrelated action thriller, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, due later this year. Feige may address the character's future at Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on 25 July.
