Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls had a Magik-al open beta weekend, as character popularity data reveals a surprising community favourite

Eurogamer · 3 hours ago

Following a weekend open beta for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, fan data analysis has revealed which characters proved most and least popular among dedicated players, with the relatively obscure mutant Magik emerging as the surprise top pick. The findings offer an early glimpse into the fighting game's community preferences ahead of its full release, and are notable because Magik is far less recognisable to casual Marvel fans than heavyweights like Iron Man or Captain America. The beta weekend was not without hiccups, as PC players faced performance issues and PlayStation users were hit by a PSN outage.

The data, compiled by fighting game player and webtoon creator AlietteFaye from players ranked Vibranium or higher, showed Magik as the most-used character overall and also the most popular pick as team leader, ahead of Blade, Magneto and Spider-Man in the general rankings. In the leader category, Black Panther, Spider-Man and Blade rounded out the top spots. At the other end, Danger was the least-used character, followed by Ms Marvel and, surprisingly, tutorial character Captain America. As Vibranium reflects only the second-highest rank tier, results could shift once data from the wider playerbase is considered.

  • Magik topped character popularity data in Marvel Tokon's open beta
  • Blade, Magneto and Spider-Man followed among Vibranium-rank players
  • Danger and Captain America ranked among the least-used characters
