Marvel Tōkon’s dire PC performance improved massively by new patch, drastically reducing CPU use and stutters

Eurogamer · 2 hours ago

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, the fighting game published by Arc System Works and Marvel Games, has received a major patch that fixes severe PC performance problems that plagued the title since its launch last week. The issues had caused a stark gap in experience between console and PC players, with the latter suffering micro-stutters, abnormally high CPU usage and frame-rate drops, but developers say the update, detailed on social media and the game's Discord server, has resolved the bulk of these problems.

The developers traced the CPU and performance faults to "periodic audio processing" and unnecessary repeated checks of audio devices, and the roughly 10GB patch also fixed bugs such as customisation settings resetting on restart and faulty online lobby button displays. PC players are additionally advised to warm up in-game shaders and use the improved auto graphics setting. Early player reports, including on X and Steam, suggest CPU usage has been halved for many users and online play is smoother, though some note that netcode and performance for lower-end "potato" PCs remain weaker; as a result, some Steam reviewers have reversed earlier negative reviews back to "Recommended".
