Insomniac Games has confirmed that Marvel's Wolverine has "gone gold," meaning development is complete and the game is ready for manufacturing ahead of its release next month. The milestone caps a development period of roughly five years that was marred by a major leak in late 2023, when internal footage and details were stolen and posted online following a ransomware attack on Insomniac.

The Spider-Man developer shared the news via social media, thanking fans for their patience through the lengthy wait and the fallout from the leaks, which had previously revealed plot details, gameplay footage and release information the studio had not intended to make public. Marvel's Wolverine is due to launch next month, marking Insomniac's next major single-player title following its acclaimed Spider-Man series.

Marvel's Wolverine is an upcoming action game from Insomniac Games, the American studio best known for its Spider-Man titles on PlayStation. It follows the character Wolverine, a member of the X-Men in Marvel's comics and films, and has been in development for around five years as one of Insomniac's major single-player projects.

The game's development has already been unusually public due to a serious security breach. In late 2023, Insomniac suffered a ransomware attack in which hackers stole and published internal company data, including footage, story details and release plans for Wolverine that the studio had not intended to reveal.

Insomniac is part of PlayStation Studios, the games division of Sony, and its output is closely watched given the commercial success of its previous Spider-Man releases. The completion of development, often referred to in the industry as a game "going gold", means the game is finished and being prepared for release, which is expected next month.
