A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Stadium Flats apartment complex, then under construction in South Bend, Indiana, prompting the evacuation of residents from a neighbouring building. The blaze, which also engulfed a construction crane, produced large flames and heavy smoke but was contained by firefighters before it could spread to the nearby Diamond View Apartments or a nearby sports facility, and no injuries or deaths were reported.

Fire crews arrived to find the building and crane fully alight, generating significant embers and debris, and though the fire damaged several windows on the top floor of the neighbouring Diamond View Apartments, which comprises 60 affordable housing units, it did not spread further. Firefighters also prevented the fire reaching the adjacent 17,000-square-foot South Bend Cubs training facility. Stadium Flats had been due to add 92 affordable housing units to the city by spring 2027; the cause of the fire is under investigation.
