A 28-year-old woman was found dead at a property in Malak, in Darwin's north, on Wednesday morning, prompting a domestic violence investigation by Northern Territory Police. A neighbour was the one who discovered the woman unresponsive on Paqualin Road at around 9.20am; emergency services attempted to revive her but she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards. Her 26-year-old partner has been arrested and remains in custody, with police alleging he assaulted her in the hours before she died and breached a domestic violence order intended to protect her.

Neighbours reported hearing "massive screaming" from the property at around 5am that day, several hours before the woman's body was discovered, and claimed police had attended the address on five consecutive nights beforehand. It is understood young children lived at the home, with toys visible outside. The exact cause of death has not been confirmed and the investigation is ongoing, with police asking anyone with information to come forward via triple-0, 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000; support is also available through 1800RESPECT and a men's behaviour-change helpline.
