Mastodon have announced a new album, `Marrow Deep`, and released a lead single, `Snakes for Dinner`, featuring guest vocals from Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age. The announcement matters because it marks the band’s first album in five years and their first full-length release since the death of former frontman Brent Hinds, signalling a significant new chapter for the group. It also introduces Mastodon’s updated line-up and shows how the band are moving forward after a period of upheaval and loss.
The album is due out on 28 August via Loma Vista and contains 12 tracks, including the previously released `Your Ghost Again` and the new single `Snakes for Dinner`. The record was co-produced with Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou, and features founding members Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders and Bill Kelliher alongside new guitarist Nick Johnston, with keyboard contributions from João Nogueira. The announcement comes ahead of the band’s Poisonous Weapons Tour, which is set to begin in North America on 16 September with support from Deafheaven and Alcest.

Mastodon are an American heavy metal band formed in Atlanta in 2000, known for blending progressive, sludge and hard rock styles. They have built a reputation over two decades as one of modern metal's most acclaimed acts, with founding members Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders and Bill Kelliher forming the core of the group.
The band suffered a major setback with the death of former guitarist and co-founder Brent Hinds, who had long been one of their most recognisable members and creative voices. His absence means any new material represents a notable shift for the group, both in sound and identity, as they continue without one of their longest-serving members.
Mastodon's music and touring plans matter to a wide fanbase built up over years of albums and live shows, and changes to their line-up or new releases are closely watched within the rock and metal world. Guest collaborators and producers brought in for new work can also signal the musical direction a band is taking after a period of change.
