Mastodon drummer and vocalist Brann Dailor says the band is excited but apprehensive about releasing its new album, “Marrow Deep”, their first full-length record since founding guitarist Brent Hinds’s death. He described the release as unfamiliar territory for the group, but said he believes the finished album is the right one for Mastodon at this stage.

“Marrow Deep” is due on 28 August through Loma Vista Recordings and features guitarist Nick Johnston, with notable contributions from keyboardist João Nogueira. The band co-produced it in Atlanta with Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou, while Andrew Scheps mixed it; bassist Troy Sanders said Mastodon developed about 32 song ideas after touring in 2024 before narrowing them down during a lengthy writing and recording process.
