Mastodon will release its new album, “Marrow Deep”, on 28 August through Loma Vista Recordings, ending a roughly five-year gap since “Hushed And Grim”. Singer and bassist Troy Sanders said the record represents the band’s “next proper step” in its evolution, combining a lengthy writing process with a decision to stop endlessly refining the material and release it.

The album is Mastodon’s first full-length featuring guitarist Nick Johnston, with notable keyboard contributions from João Nogueira. The band co-produced it in Atlanta with Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou, while Andrew Scheps mixed it; writing intensified from 2024, with around 32 early song ideas narrowed down before recording began in September 2025. Its concept draws on the Three Fates of Greek mythology and explores life, loss and destiny through personal experiences.
