Matiks raises $10M to expand its math and puzzle gaming platform
India-based Matiks has raised $10 million in pre-Series A funding to expand its maths, logic and puzzle gaming platform. The company says daily users rose from 22,000 earlier this year to more than 300,000 by September, signalling rapid growth as it offers short competitive games as an alternative to passive online content.
The round was led by General Catalyst, with Ronnie Screwvala and existing investors also participating, taking Matiks’ total funding to more than $13.5 million. Its app offers maths, puzzle, memory and logic games against bots or other players; the company is also testing a paid subscription and has launched Jelo, an experimental tool for making games. Matiks has 41 full-time employees and plans to use the funding to expand into new markets, including South Korea and Japan.

Explained simply
Matiks is an India-based company that makes games built around maths, logic, memory and puzzles. Players can compete against computer-controlled opponents or other people, in short games designed for mobile use.
The company is led by its founders and has received investment from General Catalyst, Ronnie Screwvala and other backers. It has also been testing a paid subscription and a tool called Jelo for creating games.
Matiks is part of a wider market for mobile games and online entertainment. Its plans to enter countries such as South Korea and Japan mean it will need to adapt its games and business to new audiences.
