Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid beat Real Sociedad 4-1 at the Bernabéu, giving José Mourinho a winning home return as head coach more than 13 years after his previous match there. The result matters because Madrid overcame a poor, jeered first-half display to produce a far more decisive second-half performance.

Mbappé opened the scoring in the 40th minute, but Luka Sucic equalised four minutes later after Madrid’s defence was caught out. Mbappé restored the lead on the hour, Vinícius Júnior made it 3-1 in the 68th minute, and Mbappé completed his treble with 10 minutes remaining; Real Sociedad had earlier threatened through Mikel Oyarzabal and Sergio Gómez.
