Thomas Markle arrested in Florida over alleged child abuse material possession
Developing story first seen 58 minutes ago
Thomas Markle, the estranged father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has reportedly been arrested by the FBI in Florida on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material. The reported arrest marks a new stage in a multinational investigation, with authorities also examining material allegedly found at locations linked to him in Mexico and the Philippines.
The article says agents arrested the 82-year-old at a care home in Lakeland, Florida, after a Mexican search of a storage unit in Rosarito reportedly uncovered a computer, USB drives, VHS tapes and magazines. A warrant authorised investigators to search for suspected child sexual abuse material and evidence of aggravated human trafficking. Philippine police are also reportedly close to bringing charges; the claims are allegations, and the article gives no response from Markle.

Explained simply
Thomas Markle is an American former television lighting director and the father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. He and Meghan have been estranged for several years, and he has lived in different countries, including Mexico and the Philippines.
The FBI is the United States’ federal law enforcement agency. In cases involving suspected child sexual abuse material, authorities may investigate across borders and work with police in other countries. The allegations described are serious, but suspicion or an investigation does not establish guilt; any criminal case would need to be decided through legal proceedings.
