Meghan Markle’s father arrested in US over child sex abuse material

Thomas Markle Sr, Meghan Markle’s estranged father, has been arrested in Florida and charged with possessing child sexual abuse material. US prosecutors say the case involves photographs depicting him with minor girls; the allegations have prompted Meghan to say she is “deeply distressed”.

Federal agents searched two storage units in the Los Angeles area and seized about 78 items, including slides, film negatives and books, that allegedly contained abusive images. Markle, 82, was arrested near Tampa and faces a statutory maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted; his son reported him to police and the FBI last month.
