Melania Trump skips Donald’s results party, ignores election updates… and tweets about Russia-Ukraine ceasefire

Melania Trump stayed away from the White House’s election night gathering while President Donald Trump and Republican aides watched results that showed the party losing ground in Congress. She instead used social media to highlight her efforts to secure a temporary ceasefire in and around Oleshky, a Russian-controlled city in Ukraine’s Kherson region.

A White House event with Russian and Ukrainian representatives was planned for Thursday. Melania said the truce would let residents access essentials or leave for a destination of their choice; she described Oleshky’s remaining population as mainly elderly people in urgent need of aid. About 2,000 people were still in the city when the truce began, and reports said some evacuees had reached the Ukrainian-Belarusian border.
