The 2024 horror-comedy Abigail, starring Melissa Barrera, has quietly become a major Netflix hit two years after its cinema release, currently ranking among the ten most-streamed films globally. The success adds to a strong run for vampire cinema in recent years, a genre also boosted by Ryan Coogler's Sinners, and further cements director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's reputation for blending gore and comedy.

Abigail follows a group of kidnappers who discover their young captive is actually a centuries-old vampire, with Alisha Weir's performance in the title role earning a Critics' Choice Movie Award nomination for Best Young Performer. The film was written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick and directed by the Radio Silence pairing, who have also had a busy 2026 with the release of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, a sequel starring Samara Weaving that has taken $43 million at the global box office.
