Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne, Butthole Surfers bassist JD Pinkus, Melvins drummer Coady Willis and Mr. Phylzzz's Clinton Jacob have formed a new supergroup called Gatta Morta. The band has released its debut single, "Black Hall", accompanied by an official visualiser, ahead of a debut EP that blends heavy riffs with psychedelic elements.

Osborne said he conceived the project while touring last autumn, realising he "needed to start a band" with the other three musicians. The four-track EP, titled "Burn Witch Burn", also features "Taco Bellboy", "Victims Of The Universe" and "Clear Smoke", and is being released via Amphetamine Reptile Records, with "Black Hall" put out through Ipecac Recordings. The formation follows recent activity from the members' other bands, with Melvins releasing "Thunderball" last year and Butthole Surfers issuing their long-shelved 1998 album "After The Astronaut" this summer, their first record in 25 years.
