Met Police boss ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if more allegations made about Brand
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said he would not be surprised if more people made allegations against Russell Brand, who was found guilty of rape and sexual assault. Rowley also criticised courtroom arguments reported from the trial as close to victim blaming and backed calls for juries to be directed on rape myths.
Brand, 51, was convicted of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, and acquitted of two other rape charges and attempted indecent assault. He faces sentencing on Monday and has been refused bail; police say two further rape investigations are ongoing, and he has been interviewed under caution in connection with them. The trial concerned allegations by six women relating to 1999 to 2009.
In short
- Rowley expects more people may come forward with allegations.
- Brand was convicted of rape and sexual assault.
