Met Police officer who left handcuffed homeless man needing hospital treatment after throwing him onto the pavement is sacked
A Metropolitan Police officer was dismissed for gross misconduct after using unnecessary force against a homeless man in central London, leaving him with a head injury that required hospital treatment. The case matters because the watchdog said the officer’s conduct fell below expected standards and risked damaging public confidence in policing.
The incident happened on Parker Street on 15 June 2024, after officers were called over a report that a man had entered an unattended vehicle. The watchdog said Pc Omer Farok handcuffed the man, repeatedly pushed him against a brick wall and then forced him face-first onto the pavement; the man suffered a cut near his right eyebrow. A misconduct panel found breaches relating to use of force and authority, respect and courtesy, and Farok will be added to the police barred list. He was cleared of assault by beating at trial in November 2025.
In short
- Pc Omer Farok was dismissed for gross misconduct.
