Meta has changed its AI smart glasses so their camera stops recording if the front-facing capture LED is covered, closing a workaround that let users obscure the warning light after recording had begun. The update matters because the glasses have attracted privacy and harassment concerns, particularly around people being filmed without consent.

The company had already disabled the camera when the LED was covered before use, and introduced tamper detection slightly over a month earlier. Meta says only a small minority attempt to bypass the safeguards, while also launching a campaign in areas with strong sales, including a Los Angeles billboard explaining that the LED indicates when photos or videos are being captured.
