Meta pauses Muse sharing after researchers find AI chats on the web

The Verge ·

Meta has paused Muse’s conversation-sharing feature after security researchers found that shared chat pages could be discovered through public DNS records. The discovery raises concerns that people may have exposed sensitive business and personal information by sharing chats they expected to be accessible only to people with the link.

Researchers at Claroc reported finding more than 6,800 Muse links and viewing hundreds of conversations. They said each address included a phrase describing the chat and a random ID, making links possible to reconstruct from DNS records; examples included a revenue review, a loan application, a staff calendar and job interview notes. Meta says it is reviewing the report and considering changes, amid similar cases involving shared conversations from ChatGPT, Claude and Grok appearing in Google Search.
