Meta says it plans to add its Private Processing system to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, allowing AI requests to be handled without Meta accessing users’ data. The move is intended to address growing concerns about the privacy implications of glasses that can record, interpret conversations and provide personalised assistance.

Private Processing already supports features in WhatsApp and Meta AI, including WhatsApp’s Incognito Chat, but Meta has not specified which glasses functions will use it or when it will launch. The company says the platform is operational and will be reviewed by security and privacy researchers and an independent auditor, amid continuing criticism of Meta’s privacy record and fears that its glasses could enable intrusive surveillance.
